Development of a Scalable AI Framework for Swiss Financial Institutions

The white paper “A Scalable Framework for Implementing Artificial Intelligence in Swiss Financial Institutions” offers a comprehensive guide to adopting AI in Switzerland’s highly regulated financial sector. Developed collaboratively by Swiss FinTech Innovations (SFTI) and the Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences (OST), the document is structured around two main elements:

1.Study of Use Cases
The white paper presents the results of a detailed study analyzing 21 AI use cases provided by SFTI members. The study identifies current applications of AI in the Swiss financial industry, highlighting the predominance of machine learning (67%) for structured data tasks, alongside the growing adoption of Generative AI (19%) for primary conversational and interactive applications and large language models (14%) for text-heavy tasks. Key benefits reported include enhanced operational efficiency (86%) and cost reduction (71%), while challenges such as knowledge gaps, regulatory complexity, and cultural resistance remain significant. The findings reveal that most AI initiatives are in the pilot testing or early deployment stages, reflecting a cautious but progressive approach to AI adoption.

2.Development of a Scalable AI Framework
Based on the study’s findings and leveraging a mixed-methods approach, the white paper outlines a robust and scalable framework tailored to the unique regulatory and operational environment of Swiss financial institutions. The framework consists of six key elements, 33 logical components, and 105 clear step-by-step instructions. It emphasizes regulatory compliance, operational scalability, and strategic alignment with organizational goals. It identifies critical success factors such as phased implementation, robust governance, and continuous performance monitoring. Practical recommendations include investing in internal capabilities, adopting agile methodologies, and fostering a compliance-first culture to overcome challenges and unlock the full potential of AI.

This white paper not only provides insights into the state of AI adoption in Swiss financial institutions but also serves as a roadmap for leveraging AI as a transformative tool while maintaining compliance and trust.
