The working group “Open Pension” of Swiss Fintech Innovations (SFTI), led by its member Acrea, is proud to announce the publication of a comprehensive position paper “Open Pension.” This paper marks a significant milestone in the ongoing dialogue surrounding pension provision in Switzerland. In addition to providing individual benefits and contributing to the examination, Open Pension is also important for realising the Open Finance goals set out in the Federal Council’s Digital Finance 2022+ action plan.

Pension provision has been a major concern of Swiss citizens for many years. Similar concerns have been addressed by countries across Europe with Pension Tracking Systems (PTS), which have been widely adopted by the working age population. Recognizing this, the paper advocates for the realization of a comprehensive PTS in Switzerland, necessitating open, digital access to pension data across all three pillars.

While acknowledging the complexity of pension provision, particularly in the Swiss context, the position paper concentrates on the opening of the 2nd pillar. It identifies and assesses five strategic implementation options aimed at facilitating greater accessibility and transparency within the pension framework.

In summary, Open Pension represents a transformative paradigm shift in retirement data access. By fostering greater transparency, efficiency, and personal responsibility, this approach not only addresses the immediate concerns of Swiss citizens but also promotes innovation and collaboration within Switzerland. It is a concerted effort by SFTI and its member Acrea to chart a course towards a more transparent pension provision.
